North Fork Championship 2022

I returned to the North Fork Championship for my 2nd time at the biggest event in Kayaking, this time as a local resident.

The third weekend in June came quickly this year. Every day it got busier and busier with everyone showing up for the North Fork Championships. Two days before the qualifier on Thursday, I realized I had yet to do any S turn laps, which is the rapid the qualifiers are held on. The day before the race, I got off work and did 4 practice laps. Morning of the qualifier race was  slightly chilly but the stoke remained high from everybody, I waited for my start along side the other 184 racers that participated this year. Off the start, I was cruising and going super fast. I made it through the move that was making or breaking everyone’s laps super clean and things were looking good. That was until the eddy right above the gate, I caught too much of the green water in the eddy line and spun out. That one mistake took at least 4 seconds off my time which still wouldn’t have put me in the Jake’s race but it would’ve been a faster time for sure. I was definitely bummed out, but at the same time, I’m super stoked to see some awesome people qualify and absolutely crush it in Jake’s. Fantastic times as always at NFC. Stoked for next year!
